The Grommets Are In
Finally, Bailey was healthy enough to have his grommets in. He was done early, around 9.00am. He fought the gas mask for a little bit, even though they put a chocolate smell on the mask for him. When he has his asthma pump he plays a game where he takes 2 breaths then stops and waits for me to say "keep breathing". I said that to him today with the gas mask on him and then he relaxed. It wasn't long (about 20 mins) and he was finished and we could be with him in recovery, (we had to wear these really sexy shoes over our shoes). He took a while to come out of the aneasthetic and wouldn't stop crying, this was the most upsetting part for me and I had tears. He still had the bung in his hand and he hated that and tried to pull it out. We got the nurse to take it out thinking it would help to relax him but the cotton ball and tape she replaced it with was just as bad to him. All he really wanted was a drink. He kept pushing me toward his bag where he knew is drink bottle was. As soon as I gave it to him he relaxed and stopped crying. The nurses then gave him a vegemite sandwich, which he only ate 1 quarter of and some apple juice. They then gave him a bravery award certificate and some stickers to decorate it with. He was smiling a lot and then started walking around the recovery room so they sent us home. We were home by lunch time. He's been happy and bouncing around like nothing has happened. Now we can look forward to his speech developing. There is one little sentence he manages to speak very clearly and that's "NO WAY!" He picked this up from Micayla's Pixel Chix.

That is fantastic news. It would have been hard to see him in recovery, it's never nice to see your kids so vulnerable, but hopefully now he will be able to get on with his speech. Good luck!! Laura :)
